They tried to slash me, VP says

VICE President Sara Duterte said a noticeable scar on her neck was the result of a failed attack, but she offered no other information.

“Sinubukan nila akong i-gurgur, pero hindi sila nagtagumpay (They tried to slash me, but they failed),” Duterte said in a video that has been circulating online.

“Gurgur” is a modified version of the Visayan term “gulgul,” which means “being slashed in the throat.”

Duterte did not identify who slashed her.

When asked later by reporters in the Office of the Vice President’s Pride Reception about her wound, Duterte did not offer any additional explanation.

“I don’t think it needs to be interpreted anymore, it’s straightforward, I was asked what was the scar on my neck, and I said that they tried to slash me but they were not victorious,” Duterte said.

When asked who slashed her throat, she merely said “all of them.”

On June 19, Duterte submitted her resignation letter as education secretary to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., to take effect on July 19, 2024.
