‘Multo sa Malacañang’: Marcos shares horror stories about ‘F’r. Brown’, other paranormal incidents in the Palace

Who better to tell the story about ghosts at Malacañan Palace than President Marcos, himself, who had resided in the presidential palace as a son of former President Ferdinand E. Marcos, and is now back there with his own family as the country’s 17th Chief Executive.

In his BBM Vlog 251: “Mga Multo sa Malacañang” that was uploaded on video-sharing site YouTube, the Chief Executive talked with his son, Ilocos Norte 1st District Rep. Sandro Marcos, about his experiences with “ghosts” in the Palace.

In particular, the President introduced his son and viewers to a certain “Fr. Brown”, who, based on records, was an American that worked in Malacañang during the American period.

Marcos recalled a certain incident when he was staying at a guest room near the state dining room because his bedroom was being renovated on orders of his mother, then former first lady Imelda Romualdez-Marcos.

“Minsan gabing-gabi na, umuwi ako, sinasara ko lang ‘yung pintuan mula dun sa kwarto ko, pag bukas ko ng pintuan nakita ko biglang gumalaw ‘yung mga upuan (One day, it’s nighttime, I went home, I was just closing the door from my room, and when I opened it, I saw the chairs were moving by themselves),” he said.

The Chief Executive added that even the family’s security aides, who were staying at the reception hall that time, would talk about Fr. Brown.

“Nagsisigaw ako dito. Tumakbo ako. Sinabi ko ‘Sino ba sa security? Sabi ko, may multo, may multo! Sino yan?’ Sabi si Father Brown lang siguro ‘yan (I screamed. I ran. I said ‘Who’s the security (aide)? I said there’s a ghost, there’s a ghost! Who’s that?’ They said it’s just Father Brown),” Marcos shared.

Marcos also shared more paranormal experiences while in Malacañang—about a chandelier moving about on its own, and having the feeling of being followed by someone.

“Kung minsan, maraming chandelier, isa lang ang gumagalaw at walang bukas na bintana. Hindi maabot ng tao yan. Nakakapagtaka kung bakit ganun (Sometimes, there are many chandeliers, but only one is moving and there’s no open window [for air to get in]. A person can’t reach it. It’s startling),” he claimed.

The President was especially creeped out by the feeling of someone following him when he was going up the Palace’s grand staircase.

“Actually, ilang beses nangyari sa akin, pag-akyat ko na ganun, ramdam na ramdam ko na meron nakatingin sa akin dun sa likod (it happened so many times to me, when I was climbing up the stairs, I can feel that someone is looking at me from behind),” Marcos added.

He was not the only person to share such horror stories as such ghastly incidents were also experienced by Lito and Rommy, who have been working in Malacañang for 41 years, as well as Ruel and Chris, who have been there for 16 and 22 years, respectively.

The four Palace employees said they still felt terrified, and continued to get goosebumps every time they recall their paranormal experiences in the Palace.

According to the vlog, Malacañan Palace was built in 1750, and was then a summer house for the governor-general after it was purchased by the State in 1825.

Since 1863, it housed 18 governor-generals and 14 American military and civil governors. Eventually, it became the official resident of the country’s presidents.

While it had gone under multiple renovation and refurbishment after the wars, Marcos’ vlog said it was during his father’s time there that it underwent the most extensive remodeling by his mother.
