MANILA – The Department of Justice has partnered with the Federation of Filipino-Chinese Chambers of Commerce & Industry, Inc. (FFCCCII), to facilitate the deportation of illegal Chinese nationals detained at the Bureau of immigration facilities across the country.
On Thursday, the DOJ signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the FFCCCII at the DOJ Justice Hall in Manila, which will expedite the deportation processes of “unwanted” Chinese nationals staying in the country.
“The MOU will greatly aid in the decongestion of Philippine Immigration Detention Facilities, and expedite the deportation of individuals who are considered undesirable aliens,” Justice Undersecretary Jesse Hermogenes Andres said.
Under the agreement, FFCCII shall assist the DOJ by providing air transportation arrangements for the detained Chinese nationals once cleared for deportation.
Andres thanked FFCCCII, led by its president, Cecilio Pedro, for their initiative that strengthens ties between Filipinos and Chinese in the Philippines.
He added that the partnership with the DOJ also serves as a testament to FFCCCII’s contribution not only to the Philippine economy but to socio-civic matters as well.
Earlier this month, at least 37 Chinese nationals were arrested by the Bureau of Immigration (BI) for their alleged involvement in illegal food retail, groceries, and restaurants in Parañaque.
All 37 aliens are currently detained at the BI’s facility inside Camp Bagong Diwa in Bicutan, Taguig, and facing deportation cases. — Marita Moaje (PNA)
