The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) has gone on boats to reach far-flung communities in its final leg of national identification card registration this year.

PSA has launched an initiative called “PhilSys On Boat,” where officers of Philippine Identification System (PhilSys) will reach Geographically Isolated and Disadvantaged Areas (GIDA), that include coastal barangays only accessible by boat.

“We are now in the final leg of the PhilSys registration, and our utmost priority is to reach every Filipino, even in the most challenging and remote locations,” PSA Undersecretary Claire Dennis S. Mapa said.

“Our dedicated registration personnel are embarking on these bangkas, navigating house-to-house, and braving adverse weather conditions to ensure that every Filipino is registered to PhilSys,” he added.

The PSA said its registration personnel went to the city of Isabela in Basilan where some individuals were able to receive their printed ePhilID on the spot.

A total of 81,492,399 Filipinos have been registered to PhilSys as of Oct. 27, which PSA attributed to registration efforts in GIDAs through “PhilSys On Boat” and “PhilSys On Wheels.”

Earlier, the PSA said that over 38.51 million PhilIDs were delivered and 40.61 million ePhilIDs were issued, which can be used for transactions that need proof of identity and age.

Maps also stated that the delivery of physical national IDs is expected to be complete in September next year. — Xander Dave Ceballos
